Do you like films by female filmmakers? Do you like to learn, be inspired, and be a part of advancing the voices, perspectives, stories and leadership of women?

If so, I have three films to recommend to you for your viewing pleasure this weekend. They are all by female filmmakers. And I must say I am so proud of them, as all three of these filmmakers are my cohort sisters from 50 Women Can Change the World in Media & Entertainment!

I just watched “Coded Bias” last night (which was chilling, enlightening and so well done!), and can’t wait to watch “Lupita” and “No Ordinary Man” this weekend.

The opening weekend for a film is extremely important, and I know these filmmakers would be so grateful if you’d support their work and help keep cinemas alive by buying a movie ticket this weekend and helping to spread the word about the virtual theatrical releases.

I’ve included info about each film below. Enjoy!

CODED BIAS

Director Shalini Kantayya

A groundbreaking documentary on bias in artificial intelligence, and the women data scientists fighting to expose its threat to civil rights and democracy.

'BEST OF SUNDANCE 2020' – The Denver Post

100% FRESH – Rotten Tomatoes

Coded Bias serves as both a wake-up call and a call to action.”

Variety

The panel events are free and streaming to public.

Lupita

Director Monica Wise Robles

A short documentary about Lupita, a Tsostil Maya massacre survivor in Mexico, standing at the forefront of a new movement of indigenous women.

Official Selection DOC NYC 2020
Grand Prize - March on Washington Film Festival 2020

“If anyone can change the conscience of Mexico, it is Lupita.”

No Ordinary Man

Directors Aisling Chin-Yee & Chase Joynt

No Ordinary Man is an in-depth look at the life of transgender jazz musician Billy Tipton. Complicated, beautiful and historically unrivaled, this groundbreaking film shows what is possible when a community collaborates to honor the legacy of an unlikely hero.

Best Canadian Film, Inside Out Film and Video Festival
‘One of the 10 Best Films at the Toronto International Film Festival’

No Ordinary Man is an elegant riff on a classic progression that arrives at something transcendent.”

I am so proud and excited for Shalini, Monica and Aisling to see their films out in the world and receiving accolades for the amazing heart, soul and brilliance they each poured into their projects.

We are living in a critical time for women to be taking up more space — with our voices, our wisdom, our passion, our intelligence, our stories, our presence and our leadership.

I hope you’ll join me in supporting these incredible filmmakers. Your enjoyment of these films will enable the path for more female filmmaking!!

Thank you for being a part of this community of changemakers.

I wish you a wonderful Friday and weekend ahead.
